CONSERVATIVES WELCOME £2M FUNDING BOOST TO ALLEVIATE CONGESTION
The Conservative Councillor Team at Cheshire West and Chester has welcomed yesterday’s news of a further £2.09 million road funding boost in Northwich.
The Department of Transport has revealed plans for a new slip-road, giving access to the Gadbrook Business Park, which will help to reduce congestion in the area.
Welcoming the plans, Cllr Helen Weltman said: “This is great news for Northwich and will hopefully go some way to solving the congestion problems faced there. It’s welcome news from residents and businesses alike and local MPs have lobbied hard for this for years.”
Cllr Gaynor Sinar, Chairman of the Northwich BID added “ Traffic flows around Northwich have major implications for both our physical and economic environment. Sitting in traffic costs local businesses money, adds stress to our day and impacts on air quality. Every small improvement the Government helps us deliver makes a big impact to people’s lives”
Cllr Lynn Riley, leader of the Conservative Group on the Council said” This massive investment boost in local roads that comes ahead of the Northwich transport strategy demonstrates the Government’s commitment to the North. Our plan since the Council was created in 2009 has been to help more business choose Northwich which in turn will brings jobs and improved standards of living for local people. We hope that this project is but the start of major review into transport options in the area to unlock greater capacity around Gadbrook with aspirations for new rail and other access routes
Cheshire West and Cheshire is one of 76 projects awarded funding to the tune of £244 million to bring key benefits to local road users – such as improving access to local transport, dealing with traffic ‘pinch points’ and opening more roads up to cyclists. An addition £101.3 million will pay for 2 new major roads in Cheshire and the Midlands.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: “This government is taking the big decisions for Britain’s future and investing a record £23 billion on our roads to increase capacity and improve journeys. Schemes, like this one at Gadbrook Park, will provide much needed upgrades to essential local roads up and down the country, cutting congestion, improving safety and shortening journey times for drivers. They will also help boost regional economic growth by unlocking jobs and supporting vital new housing development.”
